DOCUMENTARY SCREENING
A Light in the Dark: The Art and Life of Frank Mason
At Figurative Art Conference and Expo 2018 in Miami, FL

As the 2018 Figurative Art Conference & Expo draws to a close on Saturday, November 10, 2018, film producer, Scott Mason, will present the feature length documentary film A Light in the Dark to a theater of art enthusiasts and fellow artists who gather annually to celebrate figurative and traditional art. After the 90-minute screening, guests are invited to listen to a conversation among artists and previous Mason students that will be moderated by artist, Suzy Hart. John A. Varriano, Marsha Massih and Peter Layne Arguimbeau will join in the discussion remembering Frank's teaching methods, philosophy on painting and his contagious art spirit. DVD's of the film and Frank Mason's art book Gloria in Excelsis Deo will be available for sale during the run of the conference.

On Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 4pm to 6pm, Scoville Memorial Library will be screening the feature length documentary A Light in the Dark: The Art and Life of Frank Mason as part of their Documentary Filmmaker Series. In addition to this 90 minute screening, Producer, Scott Mason will be hosting a Q&A afterwards. A select number of Frank Mason artworks will be on display for the evening. DVD's and Frank Mason's art book Gloria in Excelsis Deo: Frank Mason's Life of Christ will be available for sale.

22 Frank Mason landscapes will be part of a group exhibition hosted by the Bryan Memorial Gallery. The exhibit will be from June 29 to September 4 with an opening reception on Sunday July 2. There will be an artist's roundtable at 1 pm on July 2 followed by an open reception from 2-4pm. The Bryan Memorial Gallery is located at 180 Main Street, Jeffersonville, VT.

76 works of art by Frank Mason will be on display at the University Museum at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from February 4th through March 11th, 2017. This exhibition offers an impressive selection of portraits, landscapes, religious and still life paintings throughout Mason's prolific career. Text Panels in 8 gallery rooms highlight Mason's biography and painting style. The University Museum is located on the campus of IUP at Sutton Hall, Room 111, 1101 South Drive, Indiana, Pennsylvania 15705.

Hours of Operation are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 2:00PM to 6:30PM; Thursday 12:00PM to 7:30PM; and Saturday 12:00PM to 4:00PM.

Acquisition, Point Park University, Point Park, Pittsburgh, PA

16 Frank Mason Paintings on permanent display at Point Park University's Lawrence Hall.

A permanent exhibit of works by Frank Mason are now on display in downtown Pittsburgh at Point Park University. This major acquisition was organized by Jack Tomayko, a member of Point Park's Board of Trustees and CEO of the Tomayko Group, in cooperation with the Frank Mason Estate. Sixteen oil paintings ranging from portraits and figure studies to landscapes and seascapes will be featured prominently in Point Park's Lawrence Hall Gallery. The exhibition is now open to the public.

Silent Auction Fundraiser Salmagundi Club Raffle

Featuring Frank Mason’s “Storing Hay, Pownal, VT” The drawing will be held on Friday, September 23rd during the Auction Grand Finale at the Salmagundi Club.

Frank Mason’s “Storing Hay, Pownal, VT” (25”hx30”w) will be the highlight of this year’s Salmagundi Club Silent Auction Fundraiser. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased for $75 through the Salmagundi Club website. The drawing will be held on Friday, September 23rd during the Auction Grand Finale at the Salmagundi Club (47 5th Ave. NY, NY 10003). The raffle and silent auction are open to the public. Raffle ticket purchasers will be given admission for themselves and one non-member companion for the evening of September 23rd, 6-9 PM. Champagne and hor d'oeuvres reception from 5pm – 7pm.

ACQUISITION BY THE Lourdes Health Foundation

Frank Mason’s “ Christ Healing the Sick“

The religious mural "Christ Healing the Sick" was recently installed at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. Special thanks to Ruth Cila, the Executive Director of Lourdes Health Foundation, and the Tomayko Group for coordinating this placement. The subject matter of the mural reflects Mason’s lifelong interest in depicting the Biblical stories of Christ. Painted in Anticoli Corado, Italy in 1973, this painting demonstrates Mason’s mastery of large scale painting carried out in the spirit of Italian Renaissance artists. The mural hangs in the large entryway to a private lecture hall within the hospital; this location is a suitable showcase for the scale and importance of this mural within Mason’s oeuvre.

“I chose to present a synthesis of the healing miracles, a scene that would embody the motif common to all the stories: the confidence of those afflicted who sought Him out and the awe of bystanders who marveled at what He was doing. Here you see two young farmers on their way to market putting down their basket of onions to take in every detail of what is going on. Here, too, are Christ’s followers who look on as a once-blind man, his sight restored, opens his eyes on a world he can now see. A woman reaching out to him will be healed of a twelve-year illness as she touches His robe. Behind her is the woman in blue from Samaria whom Christ met at the well and now proclaims He is the Messiah. A young woman with leprosy pushes through the crowd, defying strict quarantine and ignoring the man beside her who shrinks away at her approach. The centurion in the center is the man who later approaches Christ to ask help for a servant afflicted with palsy. The stories of the healing miracles always overwhelm me. As I read them, I see the lame, the halt, and the blind approaching him with utter faith in His loving kindness. Their total trust in His power and their poignant hope for a happy solution to their afflictions fill me with wonder.”

The mural was installed at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center on July 22, 2015.
